Fight on Park Street leaves 14-year-old girl unconscious

Three teenagers were arrested last week after a fight on South Park street left two other teenagers injured, one of whom was unconscious.

“The victim was pulled down by the hair and punched multiple times in the head,” Madison Police Department Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain wrote in an incident report. “Several other young people recorded the violence on cell phones and posted the beating on social media.”

MPD officers described the scene as “chaotic” when they arrived at the incident.

“The 14-year-old victim was taken to a hospital with head and neck injuries,” DeSpain wrote. “She told police she had rebuffed flirtatious advances of the arrested boy and this made him angry. The girl who attacked her is one of the boy's friends, as is the second girl who was taken into custody.”

The other victim was struck when she tried to intervene and help the first victim. All three suspect were arrested on battery charges.
