Shooting on North Side being called ‘attempted homicide’

Two men were driving around the North Side of Madison when they stopped and one got out of the car at the corner of Wheeler Road and School Road. Then a second car pulled up and a suspect got out of it holding a gun.

According to a Madison Police Department incident report, the suspect then demanded the victim to empty his pockets.

“The victim instead grabbed for the gun and the two struggled over it. Several rounds were fired, one of which hit the victim in the shoulder,” Sargent Galen Wiering wrote in the report. “The suspect fled the scene and the victim's brother drove him to one of the area hospitals.”

His injuries were non-life threatening. MPD did not release a suspect description and said the investigation is ongoing.
