A snow emergency was declared Wednesday for all of Madison and will last through early Friday morning.

Snow emergency declared until Friday

City officials declared Wednesday a snow emergency for all of Madison, including the downtown and isthmus area, that will remain in effect until 7 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 27.

During a snow emergency, alternate-side parking is enforced overnight in order to allow the city to plow streets. Vehicles can park on only one side of the street, determined by the date, between the hours of 1 a.m. and 7 a.m.

On Wednesday night, vehicles should park on the side of the street with even house numbers and on Thursday night, the side with odd house numbers.

As parking availability is limited during snow emergencies, especially in the downtown area, vehicles are allowed to park in city ramps free of charge between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Violators of alternate-side parking rules are subject to a $60 fine and may also be towed.
