For the very first time, Madison constituents are able to cast ballots early at locations all over the city—including on UW-Madison’s campus—for the spring municipal primary election taking place in under two weeks.
Municipal elections allow voters to select judicial, educational and municipal officers, as well as non-partisan county officers.
The Feb. 21 primary will determine nominees for several different races, including for state superintendent and for two different Madison Metropolitan School District Board seats, who will compete in the general election.
Vying for state superintendent, incumbent Tony Evers faces former school district superintendent Lowell E. Holtz and former school district administrator John Humphries.
In Madison School Board, seat 6, incumbent Michael Flores isn’t running for a second term. Competing for his seat will be parent and volunteer Cris Carusi, community organization director Ali Janae Muldrow and former school mediator Kate Toews.
For Madison School Board, seat 7, incumbent Ed Hughes faces attorney Nicki Vander Meulen and university professor Matt Andrzejewski.
Primary in-person absentee voting begins on campus Feb. 13 and runs through Feb. 17. Polls will be open on the third floor of the Student Activity Center between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. There are 12 other absentee voting locations throughout Madison.
Even those not registered at their current address can still sign up at absentee locations with a proof of residence. Registered voters just need to present ID to receive an absentee ballot.
The city’s general election will take place Apr. 4.
