A man stole three women’s wallets and hid them in a large flower pot in downtown Madison early Sunday morning, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
A witness told police the man was acting suspiciously at approximately 2 a.m. near a large flower planter located on the 400 Block of West Gilman Street. The witness then checked the planter and discovered three stolen wallets.
None of the wallets had any money or credit cards at the time they were found. Two, however, contained identification cards. The two wallet-owners, both women in their mid-twenties, told police they were “socializing” on State Street and did not realize their wallets had been stolen.
The suspect left the scene, and police did not make an arrest. MPD Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain said the thief’s identity is not known and the witness was not able to give a physical description of him.
