UW-Madison student arrested after pummeling a bouncer

A UW-Madison student was arrested over the weekend after assaulting a bouncer outside of a downtown bar.

Travis Haanstad, 21, faces tentative charges of substantial battery and disorderly conduct after knocking a 43-year-old man unconscious outside of the Ivory Room Piano Bar late Friday night, Madison Police Department Public Information Officer Joel DeSpain said in an incident report.

The incident occurred around 11:51 p.m. Friday night, DeSpain said, after the victim escorted Haanstad out of the bar after he “caused a disturbance.”

Officers later located the suspect in the downtown area where he was arrested.

The victim was treated at a hospital following the incident, according to DeSpain.
