UW System regent Margaret Farrow resigns four years into her seven-year term.

UW System Regent Farrow resigns

UW System Regent Margaret Farrow announced this afternoon she will be retiring early from her position on the Board of Regents.

Farrow was appointed to the UW System Board of Regents by Gov. Walker in 2013 and her term was set to expire in May of 2020.

“I’m having to say goodbye, I never thought I would do that ahead of time,” Farrow said at Thursday's regents meeting.

Farrow cited her advancing age and desire to spend more time with her family as reasons for her early retirement.

“When you reach your early 80s, you don’t plan life as much as it gives you the next thing you’re going to deal with. I have other things I’m still involved with, I have other priorities and I have so many grandchildren,” Farrow said.

In her time on the Board of Regents, Farrow said voting in UW System President Ray Cross was the best decision she was able to be a part of. Farrow also congratulated her fellow regents and the chancellors of each UW school for their work.

“We’ve got great chancellors: Find me one that isn’t and I’ll give you 10 bucks. Every one of them is wonderful,” Farrow said.

Fellow regents also gave Farrow a standing ovation for her years of service to the UW-System.

“Regent Farrow has talked about retirement in the past, and I always begged her to stay,” Regent President John Behling said. “I’ve always had such honor and respect for you.”
