UHS's workshops aim to help students deal with stress, especially during midterm season.

UHS workshops aim to alleviate midterm stress

If you’re stressed out during midterm season, University Health Services has got you covered.

UHS is in the middle of a “Supporting Student Success” workshop series that aims to help UW-Madison students coping with school-related stress.

The workshop series — implemented in fall 2017 — specifically targets students struggling with time management, test anxiety and procrastination. According to Jennifer Moulton, associate psychologist and group therapy coordinator at UHS, these are common concerns reported by UW-Madison students.

“Many [students] expressed worries that these difficulties were impacting their academic success, as well as their overall being,” Moulton said. “We felt it would be beneficial to offer workshops that would support students in addressing these concerns.”

Moulton emphasized the workshops are available for students struggling not only during midterm season, but also over the course of the semester.

“These workshops can help students figure out how to best approach keeping up and completing their responsibilities, as well as improve coping and managing the stress and anxiety that may arise for them,” she said.

Prior to the implementation of the workshop series, resources for stress management through UHS were not easily accessable by students, and according to Moulton, the accessibility of these workshops allows UHS to help more students receive the support they need.

“By offering these workshops instead of referring to individual counseling appointments, we are able to meet the needs of more students and reduce the wait time for receiving support,” Moulton said.

Students can sign up online for any or all of three sessions which take place every Friday throughout the semester. The sessions include Make the Most of Your Time, Focus Your Attention and Taking Down Test Anxiety.
