By Youth for Youth, an organization that funds programs focused on limiting racial inequality and violence and abuse, as well as increasing LGBTQ+ awareness, awarded over $30,000 to more than 20 youth programs in the community, at Madison’s United Way on Monday.
BYFY is a collaboration between United Way, the Dane County Youth Commission and the City of Madison Community Development Division.
The organization originated from a widespread program called Dane Arts, which supports local artists and art organizations around the county. The Dane Arts grants are funded by a combination of county dollars and private donations.
Many local organizations that promote history, arts and culture will receive over $132,000 in grant funds, which is less than the $341,000 they previously requested to support their programs.
The grants are an opportunity to promote and support the organizations in the community, according to County Executive Joe Parisi.
Like last year, Parisi increased the grant allocation by $20,000. This year, the funds will be spread among nonprofit organizations, schools, individuals and municipalities to benefit arts, cultural projects and programs offered throughout the county.
The grant deadline for the next project is Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018.
