While students were away on spring break, police responded to three separate downtown fights, one of which involved a local bar manager.
The first occurred just past midnight on Wednesday, March 28. According to the incident report, a 34-year-old male bar manager at Church Key Bar & Grill was assaulted by a visitor from Iowa after trying to break up a seperate altercation.
The victim was punched several times in the head and had his eye poked by the suspect. It’s believed the suspect knew one of the customers involved in the altercation.
Later that evening, a homeless man on the 100 block of State Street was attacked by a suspect who claimed he had stolen some of his alcohol.
The suspect grabbed the cane of an individual sleeping nearby and beat the victim with it, causing him to need stitches in his head. The suspect ran after the police were called and is still at-large.
The most recent incident occurred early Sunday morning after police responded to 10-20 people fighting in the street just off the capitol square. Upon arriving, police found a male victim with knife wounds to his head and face. The suspect also fled the scene and the victim says the two know each other.
