I’m thinking about going on a big vacation with some friends from school this summer since it’s our last summer before graduation. But there’s just one problem: we’re all younger than 25, so we can’t rent a car! We’re trying to figure out ways to work around this, but they all seem kind of expensive. Experts, what can we do?
Renting a car is a vacation convenience that many people take for granted. But it’s true that younger vacationers such as yourself will find that, in most cases, it’s a convenience closed to them. What can you do?
One option, of course, is to bring a vehicle of your own. Traveling to vacation destinations by car is as popular as ever, and it can simplify your transportation needs significantly. Plenty of attractions are best reached by car, point out the hosts at The Mill Hotel, Casino, and RV Park--folks who show up to experience North Bend, OR will find that road travel is the best way to reach the location.
In fact, traveling in your own vehicle can be your vacation. Road trips are a classic American tradition, and they’re a great way to bond with friends (in what will admittedly be close quarters!). In fact, most Americans drive to their vacation destinations each year. And why not? It can be less stressful--and cheaper--than flying.
If you do decide to drive your own vehicle on vacation, just make sure that it’s up to the task. A visit to a trusted mechanic will help ensure that your vacation isn’t ruined by car trouble, say educators who offer automotive & diesel technology degrees in New York. And a safe vehicle will also keep you out of dangerous accidents, say Red Bank, NJ worker’s compensation attorneys.
But bringing along a car of your own won’t work in every case, of course. If your vacation destination is far away, you will find it inefficient to drive there. And, of course, the people who head out to surf Hawaii can’t exactly drive there — there’s an ocean in the way! So what can you do?
You can rely on car services, taxi services, Uber, and Lyft, for one. That can get pricey, but you can mitigate the situation by looking carefully at your plans. Is it possible to stay right in the heart of a walkable downtown area? Should you consider an all-inclusive trip at a resort or on a cruise ship, so that you don’t have to drive from place to place at all? It might be easier than you imagine to plan around your lack of wheels.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the “rule” against drivers under 25 renting vehicles isn’t quite as strict as you might think. Some car rental agencies allow drivers under 25--though you should be prepared to pay steep rates and pre-pay certain expenses that would be deferred for older drivers.
