An attempted strong-arm robbery and battery occurred near Memorial Library late Saturday night, according to a UW-Madison Crime Warning issued early Sunday morning.
The warning stated that an officer was driving through the area when they were flagged down by the victim. The victim said that there had been a physical fight between him and three other men, who then fled toward State Street. The victim followed the suspects and found property that had been taken from him during the altercation.
The UW-Madison Police Department cited two suspects for disorderly conduct but a third suspect, wanted for questioning, was not located. UWPD is actively investigating the case.
UWPD encourages the UW-Madison community to call 911 if they observe something they feel is dangerous and to never resist if they are confronted by an individual demanding property.
Anyone with information regarding Saturday’s incident should contact UWPD at (608) 264-2677.
