Associated Students of Madison’s Student Services Finance Committee trimmed 7.5 percent from its expenses the previous year in its 2019-'20 fiscal year internal operating budget, for which passed in a unanimous vote Monday.
The new $177,566.22 budget will help cover the hourly rate of SSFC members as they work to allocate $51 million in student segregated fees over the course of the year, as well as travel, programming and supply expenses.
“As the allocating body of ASM responsible for $51 million in segregated fees, I think it’s important that we set a precedent of being responsible stewards of students' money,” SSFC Chair Jeremy Swanson said. “That starts with us, and I hope that we will continue that throughout the entire year.”
While the total budget shaved more than $14,000 from last year’s projected operating expenses, SSFC leadership will actually see a slight pay raise. Under previous ASM bylaws, their salary will increase from $10.35 to $10.50, while SSFC representatives will continue to earn $10.50 an hour.
Swanson called the new budget “the epitome of fiscal responsibility.”
The committee will begin to work through budgeting for ASM and other Registered Student Organizations in the following weeks.
