Madison police have not yet found the armed woman who robbed a gift store Monday

Investigations continue after WiscAlerts warn students of armed woman

The Madison Police Department has been unable to find an armed woman who was reported at the 1700 block of Monroe Street Monday afternoon.

Madison police said the suspect robbed the Orange Tree Imports gift store, armed with either a gun or taser, according to the shop’s clerk.

Students received a WiscAlert from UWPD around 3 p.m. describing the suspect as a white female with a long, dark-haired ponytail between the ages of 25 and 30, wearing a baggy, dark green sweatshirt and a hat.

Over the course of an hour, three alerts were sent out. The first cautioned students to avoid the area altogether, while the second disclosed the woman as a suspect of armed robbery.

The last stated the police believe the suspect has left the area but the investigation would continue.

Those who have information regarding the incident are urged to call the City of Madison Police at 608-255-2345.
