UWPD investigates unknown smoke, alarms

A WiscAlert sent to students and faculty Monday said there is no active fire at the Engineering Centers after an earlier alert warned of smoke and alarms with an unknown cause at campus Engineering Centers.

UW-Madison Police Department and the Madison Fire Department said there is no active threat following their investigation of the scene. 

Electricians found a large oven in the basement caused the smoke. UWPD said the problem was contained but there was some damage caused by fire sprinklers. 

The Engineering Centers closed following the alerts and will remain closed overnight.
