An altercation on a city bus Wednesday evening ended with one passenger requiring a ride to the hospital and another to jail, Madison police said.
The passenger reportedly caused a scene as soon as he stepped on the bus, flirting with an uninterested woman who brought his behavior to the attention of the bus driver. Clearly drunk, he fell as soon as the bus started moving and chose a seat next a man who told police he spent the entire ride staring straight ahead, hoping to avoid eye contact.
Eventually, the drunk man began to loudly threaten the entire bus, saying everyone would die if he could not find his phone. He told the man sitting next to him he would also have to die if he did not find his phone and then proceeded to punch him in the face, breaking a tooth in half.
As the driver called police, the victim pinned the drunk man to a seat with his arm. The suspect was arrested for disorderly conduct and substantial battery, while the victim needed to be taken to the hospital.
