Babcock Dairy named a new ice cream flavor yesterday honoring soon-to-be retired UW-Madison Varsity Band Director Mike Leckrone for his dedication to the university.
“March on Leckrone,” a vanilla cranberry swirl ice cream with white chocolate flakes, is Babcock Dairy’s newest flavor addition and pays homage to Leckrone’s 50-year-long career at UW-Madison. The announcement of this new flavor came a day before the start of the Varsity Band spring concert series, which will be Leckrone’s final performance at the university.
UW-Madison community members took to social media to show their excitement for the new flavor and wish Leckrone well on his departure from UW-Madison.
“Thanks Babcock Dairy for your oh so sweet recognition of a living legend!” UWisc Med Admissions tweeted Thursday.
UW Band member Joey D'Amato also tweeted, “The man has his own ice cream flavor #ThanksMike.”
Having an ice cream flavor named after him puts Leckrone among the likes of other notable Badgers such as Chancellor Rebecca Blank with Bec-Key Lime Pie and Barry Alvarez with Berry Alvarez.
UW-Madison community members can now find these flavors along with March on Leckrone at Memorial Union, Union South and the Babcock Dairy Hall Shop on Linden Drive.
