Madison police arrested a man Sunday after he drove drunk in downtown, hitting another car before driving off the road.
The incident began early Saturday morning, when the driver ran a red light and hit a car passing through the intersection of Gorham Street and Wisconsin Avenue, injuring the two passengers in the other car. He then drove away from the scene with his front bumper dragging across the ground.
With police in pursuit, he drove over 60 mph the wrong way down Johnson Street through a construction zone. After hitting multiple construction signs and barrels and nearly missing a pickup truck, the man drove off the road and into a building. He then exited the car and attempted to run away from police but tripped on the sidewalk and was arrested.
The 30-year-old man was taken to jail on charges of hit-and-run, fleeing from police, operating while intoxicated, resisting arrest and operating with a revoked license. Police said this is his third charge for operating while intoxicated.
