Ald. Avra Reddy, District 8, plans to step down from her position on Madison’s City Council at the end of the month due to family illness.
Reddy, a UW-Madison sophomore, has served on the City Council since the spring, where she defeated fellow student Matthew Mitnick in April’s elections.
Her last day representing District 8 — which covers a large portion of campus — will be Sept. 30.
“In her short tenure, Alder Avra Reddy has made a great impact and great contributions to our Council deliberations with her thoughtfulness and commitment to making Madison a better place,” a City Council press release said Thursday.
The City Council will appoint a new District 8 alder through an application process overseen by the council president, Ald. Shiva Bidar. The position will be filled Nov. 5, and applications are due Oct. 14 at noon.
