Madison Police Department officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in West Madison on Sunday night.

Madison Police officer involved in shooting incident, subject did not survive

An officer-involved shooting occurred Sunday night following a report of a man shooting a gun. 

Madison Police Department officers responded to the report on the 6500 block of Raymond Rd in West Madison, according to the incident report.

In the ensuing encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The subject was transported to a hospital but did not survive.

“I appreciate the danger that our officers face every single day, and we are fortunate this incident was not worse,” Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway said in a statement. “The loss of life is always tragic.”

This incident is under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation, which is a fully independent process from MPD.
