The Dane County Regional Airport is taking measures to prevent future spread of the coronavirus, flu and other respiratory viruses.
DCRA assured travelers they will be increasing the amount of sanitization that takes place throughout the terminal in response to the coronavirus, according to a press release. Their efforts will include a thorough disinfecting of all seating, door handles, restrooms, escalator rails and any other surfaces people touch.
“Even though we believe our current sanitization practices are very effective in helping stop the spread of the illness, we have increased the frequency of our sanitization processes,” DCRA stated. “We are working closely with local and national partners to monitor and respond to the situation.”
However, while DCRA ramps up their efforts to disinfect terminals, it is not yet confirmed which airport the Dane County resident that tested positive for coronavirus traveled through.
The patient arrived prior to screening criteria determined by the federal government and was not met at the airport.
“This is an adult who has recently returned from travel in China. Other than that, we are not providing any additional information to protect the individual’s confidentiality,” said Janelle Heinrich, director of Public Health Madison & Dane County, during a recent press conference regarding the illness. “If people are perceived to be at risk, or meet the screening criteria, we will be in touch with them.”
Public Health Madison & Dane County has also not released additional information regarding the patient’s gender or age. They confirmed in a tweet that the patient was not a UW-Madison student.
