New music Friday seems to be hitting differently during a period of quarantine.
Living so passively has allowed me to put more time and effort into my music selection than before. When my Netflix go-tos start to exhaust me, or homework just needs to put on pause, what better friend have I found right now than new music?
This past Friday, March 27, multiple artists released new albums, making my Friday morning that much better. Just to name a few, Dua Lipa, 5 Seconds of Summer and Pearl Jam (yes, the real Pearl Jam) all put out new records.
If you know me, you can feel the excitement I had regarding that new 5SOS album through the screen. But, if you don’t, allow me to paint the picture for you. It’s reaching midnight, I’m locked in my basement, computer up and ready and phone, too. I set the perfect scene for my own listening party and the band livestreamed from their living rooms to make up for the not-so-traditional release night.
Musicians are tasked with getting creative, interacting with fans just enough so they don’t lose anyone's interest during such a crucial time. And while instagram lives might be fun, they are on course to become overdone and the more celebrities I see doing it, the less inclined I am to really care.
Anyways, back to the music. Jessie Reyez released her debut album Before Love Came to Kill Us. PARTYNEXTDOOR returned with a RIHANNA FEATURE (“Believe It”) on his new album, PARTYMOBILE.
And for those that might be looking for something a bit more coffee-house, Waxahatchee released an album titled Saint Cloud.
You’re pretty much set with hours of good, new music content. Please put my sentiment to the test and check out the aforementioned. Below, I’ve outlined a few of my favorites from each record.
It’s a great time to be a music fan or become one. Everyone benefits from a good song, whether it’s something nostalgic enough to bring you back to your favorite Friday out in college, or it sets the mood for your somber afternoon staring out your window.
