UW-Madison students in Florence required to leave Italy

CET Academic Programs suspended its Spring term programs in Florence and Siena after the Center for Disease Control issued a level three travel warning Friday recommending avoidance of non-essential travel to Italy.

Students will continue classes in an online format, but should arrange travel home to the U.S. as soon as possible, CET said in an email.

Students will be allowed to remain in program housing until they make travel arrangements, but may not remain in Italy for the remainder of the semester. CET’s email said the decision to suspend programs was “difficult but necessary” amid “rapidly changing” coronavirus outbreaks.

The UW study abroad office reiterated CET’s announcement in an email to students, saying they “should return home as soon as possible.”
