Dane county humane society hosts virtual adoption event

While the COVID-19 pandemic might make meeting a new furry friend difficult, the Dane County Humane Society is ready to help. The organization will be hosting a virtual pet adoption week from Oct. 24 to Oct. 31 to find loving homes for 70 animals.

“If you have been considering adopting a pet, now is the best time to make an appointment and meet your new best friend,” the humane society stated in a press release. “Professional Adoption Counselors will be ready to walk you through all the steps of adopting and providing a wonderful home for an animal in need.”

The DCHS is a private, non-profit, community-supported organization that provides care to thousands of pets, livestock and wildlife each year. The goal of the event is to find safe and welcoming homes for the pets so that the group can help more animals in the community by creating new space in the shelter.

In addition to a new best friend, those that adopt during the event will receive $25 worth of pet supplies. Pets that are members of the Lonely Hearts Club, a collection of animals that have been difficult to find homes for, will also be subject to reduced adoption fees.

The humane society partnered with Don Miller Subaru West, Subaru and the ASPCA to make the event possible. Employees of the dealership wanted to ‘share the love’ that pets bring them every day.

“Partnerships like this make it possible for us to continue our mission of helping people and animals in our community,” said Amy Good, Director of Development and Marketing for the DCHS.

Cats, dogs, guinea pigs and a duck named Count Quackula are among the animals looking for homes during the virtual pet adoption week.

Navarro, one of the many dogs up for adoption, remains a member of the “Lonely Hearts Club” as he has resided at DCHS for a significant amount of time. Navarro is a 2-year-old hound mix known for being friendly and energetic, and he is looking for a home with someone who has an active lifestyle and is dedicated to positive reinforcement training.

Hazel, a four-year-old Domestic Shorthaired cat, is also among the pets looking for a forever home. She experiences anxiety and is looking for a welcoming home somewhere where she can relax and get lots of love.

Interested parties can go to giveshelter.org and make an appointment online to meet one of the many pets the humane society has to adopt.
