Dane county officials called into question the authenticity of an email on Monday, signed with the name of an investigator reviewing the results of the 2020 election.
The email, sent to several Wisconsin county clerks, was signed by former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman, a lead investigator for a probe reviewing the results of the 2020 election. The message requested secure data regarding the 2020 election.
Upon examination by Dane County officials, it was discovered that the email was sent from a Gmail account associated with a “John Delta.” Dane County has yet to receive verification of the message from Gableman, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
The email specifically asked county clerks to maintain information on voting machines used in the 2020 election, seemingly in an attempt to try to gain access to information that would indicate the presence of election fraud during the presidential race.
Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell, one individual who received the email supposedly from Gableman, noted that the incident calls into question the security of the investigation.
“It makes you wonder what’s going on as far as security with Mr. Gableman,” McDonell said, in an interview with WKOW. “Is he using his home computer in his basement and then asking for sensitive material? I hope that’s not the case.”
Rock County Clerk, Lisa Tollefson, also confirmed receiving the message from an individual claiming to be Gableman, however, Tollefson stated that the requested data likely has already been reset since the 2020 election.
“All the data from the election is stored on removable media sticks. So I’m not sure that the data they are looking for would be on the tabulators,” Tollefson explained in an interview.
In the letter, 'Gableman' requested that the county clerks forward the message to municipal clerks to seek more data from the election. McDonell echoed Tollefson’s sentiments in an interview, explaining that municipal clerks do not have the data that the individual claiming to be Gableman is looking for.
“It is very concerning to think that people who have no knowledge of the elections, and haven’t brought anyone on board that does know to help them, are the ones making these requests,” McDonell said.
