A Dane County village moved its polling location after police responded to a gunshot fired in a dispute near the original location, according to Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell.
Police arrested and charged a 75-year-old man with disorderly conduct while armed, according to a statement from Green County Sheriff Jeff Skatrud reported by the Associated Press. Skaturd said there is no evidence the dispute was related to the election or the polling location.
The polling location in downtown Village of Brooklyn was moved to the Village Public Works Building and is expected to open at approximately 9:30 a.m., McDonell said in a news conference.
McDonell said few voters are likely to be impacted due to the time of day, and residents who were in the building at the time the situation occurred were allowed to cast their ballots.
“There is a safe location away from that area for them to vote,” he said.
The Village also requested a court order to extend voting hours an additional hour and a half at the location to compensate for the time voters lost due to the move.
