Badgers’ junior wide receiver Keontez Lewis announced his intention to enter the transfer portal, he shared on Twitter Thursday afternoon.
Lewis transferred to Wisconsin for the 2022 season after spending his freshman year at UCLA. He made an immediate impact with the team, playing all 13 games and reeling in his first reception as a Badger in just the second game of the 2022 season.
Lewis finished the 2022 season with 20 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns. He proved to be a solid option for former Badgers’ quarterback Graham Mertz in a rather turbulent season, finishing third on the team in receptions, yards and receiving touchdowns.
Lewis was at the core of the 2022 receivers room and was in the main rotation of offensive weapons last season.
However, as head coach Luke Fickell took over the program at the end of last year, he brought multiple wide receiver transfers with him. Players such as C.J. Williams, Bryson Green and Will Pauling all joined the receiving core prior to the 2023 season.
The incoming transfers impacted Lewis’ involvement in the 2023 offense in the two games he played. Lewis only saw one target for 12 yards in the two opening games under Luke Fickell before announcing his transfer portal decision.
