UW Womens Soccer vs. Michigan State

Wisconsin takes down Purdue on senior day

Women’s soccer secured a 2-1 win over the Boilermakers this past Sunday to celebrate Senior Day.

The Wisconsin Badgers (8-2-3) women’s soccer team secured a win at home Sunday afternoon against the Purdue Boilermakers (3-9-1) while celebrating the senior class. The final score was 2-1, putting the Wisconsin girls third in Big Ten standings with a conference record of 3-1-1.

The festivities began before kickoff as the fans honored the eight Badger seniors. Emma Jaskaniec, Macy Monticello, Dara Andringa, Ali Fine, Gabby Green, Izzy Verdugo, Rachel Dallet and Erin McKinney were all honored for their commitment to Wisconsin soccer.

After the celebration, it was time for the action to begin. The Badgers came out hot, making their presence known to the Boilermakers. A fitting play happened in the eighth minute of the first half as Jaskaniec scored a header from Ashley Martinez, lofting the ball into the box off a corner. Jaskaniec has scored in back-to-back matches, and her goal total for the season moved up to five on Sunday.

Martinez created opportunities to score for herself as well. The junior banged the ball into the back of the goal from outside of the box in the 23rd minute, shocking every defender around. This was Martinez’s second goal of the season, and the Badgers went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

The Badgers were incredibly dominant in the first half, totaling up nine shots on goal to the Boilermakers’ one. Purdue came out with more intensity in the second half, scoring at the 62:00 minute mark. But Wisconsin bounced back and prevented any chance for a comeback.

The Badgers finished off with a 2-1 victory, and they now await a Thursday home match against Northwestern at 7 p.m. The Wisconsin girls are on a roll as they advance their win streak in the Big Ten Conference, looking to dominate their opponents.
