Fire at Engineering Hall prompts evacuations, canceled classes

The fire has been extinguished, and Friday classes in the building are canceled, per university reports.

Emergency personnel responded to a fire at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Engineering Hall that has since been extinguished.

No one was injured, according to a tweet from the university.

Engineering Hall was evacuated and students were advised to stay clear of the area, per a WiscAlert sent at 7:49 a.m. by the university.

All classes in the building have been canceled for Friday, UW-Madison Police Department spokesperson Marc Lovicott told reporters on scene.

All classes at other engineering buildings are canceled until 12 p.m. Friday, according to a message sent by Dean of Engineering Ian Robertson.

Subsequent WiscAlerts were sent out at 8:17 a.m. and 8:32 a.m. confirming Police and Fire Department presence at the building.

This is a developing story.
