Badgers men’s track and field makes outdoor season debut in Louisiana

The Wisconsin Badgers track and field team competed in the Keyth Talley Invitational to begin their 2024 outdoor season.

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s track and field team officially began its outdoor season Saturday at the Keyth Talley Invitational in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Badgers sent a small group of athletes, most of whom competed in field events, to represent the team at the meet.

Redshirt senior Quinn Lansill was the lone Badger to compete in a running event on Saturday. Lansill competed in the 110-meter high hurdles and ran a time of 14.60 seconds, which earned him a seventh-place finish.

Lansill also participated in the long jump, jumping a distance of 6.47 meters and placing 21st.

Wisconsin performed well in field events all day, highlighted by personal best efforts from multiple athletes.

Hunter Cook got things started for the team with a personal best in the pole vault when he cleared 5.16 meters, placing him third in the event.

Jacob Bugella also notched a personal best and third-place finish with a throw of 61.45 meters in the hammer throw.

In the lone event, Jacob Zednik and Cade Amborn placed fourth and fifth in the javelin throw, respectively. Zednik set a personal best with a throw of 59.61 meters, and Amborn was just behind with a throw of 58.33 meters.

Amborn also competed in the discus throw, where he placed 13th with a throw of 43.92 meters.

Despite the lack of numbers for the team Saturday in Baton Rouge, the day was still filled with satisfactory results.

The Badgers will be represented in a much larger capacity this coming weekend when athletes compete in two separate meets. Some athletes will be back in Baton Rouge at LSU’s Battle of the Bayou on Saturday, and others will compete Friday and Saturday in Palo Alto, California at the Stanford Invitational.
