Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball player Connor Essegian announced his commitment to the Nebraska Huskers, writing “Go Big Red #Committed🌽” in an April 21 post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Essegian had a stellar freshmen season, averaging 12 points and four rebounds a game, ending the season as Wisconsin’s third-leading scorer while earning Big Ten All-Freshman team honors.
However, his time on the court significantly dwindled between his freshman and sophomore seasons, going from 27.4 to 7.3 average minutes per game and starting zero games — compared to the 19 he started the previous season.
This decrease in time was largely attributed to AJ Storr transferring in from St. John’s, a back injury to start the season and poor defensive play according to head coach Greg Gard, who said he felt he had to “continue to demand that [Essegian] have to guard”.
The 2024-25 men’s basketball season has not been released yet, but the Badgers will face off against Connor Essegian and the Cornhuskers sometime during the season.
