Ian Robertson, dean of the College of Engineering at The University of Wisconsin-Madison, announced his plans to step down after 11 years in the role on Monday.
Robertson became the college’s ninth dean in 2013. Depending on the timeline for his successor, Robertson may remain dean through the end of December 2024.
He will continue to work as a faculty member at UW-Madison in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, UW-Madison announced in a press release.
“Dean Robertson has been an exceptional dean, and I am grateful for his outstanding leadership and dedication to ensuring that our students receive a world-class engineering education,” Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin said in a press release.
The announcement comes after Gov. Tony Evers approved $197 million for a new UW-Madison engineering building last month, a project drafted and approved while Robertson was in office. The building is expected to open in 2028.
The university will conduct a nationwide search for a new dean, with details to follow.
