MILWAUKEE — A Columbus police officer shot and killed a person about a mile west of the Republican National Convention security zone Tuesday, sources and witnesses told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and WISC 12 News.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said an adult male was killed.
Brian Steel, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capitol City Lodge No. 9, confirmed to the Sentinel Columbus police were involved in a shooting in Milwaukee.
Around 4,000 police officers from out of state are at the RNC, according to reporting from MJS. Witnesses told WISN 12 News that two men were fighting at King Park, when a man pulled a knife out and was shot at by officers. Police have yet to confirm this account.
The incident does not appear to be related to the RNC.
This is a developing story.
