Harris leads Trump in Wisconsin, Marquette poll shows

A poll released by Marquette University Law School Wednesday shows Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump in Wisconsin 52-48.

Vice President Kamala Harris has edged out a 52-48 lead against former President Donald Trump among registered voters in Wisconsin, according to a poll released by Marquette University Law School on Wednesday. The numbers were the same among those considered likely to vote.

The university took the poll between Aug. 28 and Sept. 5, before the presidential debate Tuesday night. It represents an improvement in Harris’ performance from the previous Marquette poll taken in early August, where Trump had a 50-49 lead against Harris among registered voters and Harris had a 50-49 lead against Trump among likely voters.

The poll surveyed 822 registered voters, 738 of whom were also likely to vote.

When third-party candidates were still running,  Harris still led over Trump by four points, this time in a 47-43 split, according to the new Marquette poll. Former candidate Robert F. Kennedy, the most popular independent candidate, had 6% of the votes. In total, the number of third-party votes was 9%, significantly higher than in previous elections.

Voters also viewed Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz more favorably than the Republican pick JD Vance. In the new Marquette poll, 43% of voters viewed Walz favorably and 37% unfavorably. About 19% said they did not have enough information to judge, and 90% of Democrats considered Walz an “excellent" or “very good” choice, whereas only 77% of Republicans considered Vance to be so.
