Meriter Hospital goes into lockdown Friday due to 'external threat'

The Madison Police Department is looking into an “external threat.”

Meriter Hospital is on lockdown Friday as police “vet” an “external threat” on the hospital, the Madison Police Department told The Daily Cardinal.

The hospital has been on lockdown since 10:30 a.m., and employees were encouraged not to leave the building, Heather, a dialysis technician, told the Cardinal. She confirmed the building was still on lockdown as of 1 p.m.

Security and police are stationed around the hospital’s buildings.

This is a developing story.
