Top Trump USA announced Madison will be the first Wisconsin city to have its own Monopoly game at a press conference at the Park Hotel Wednesday.
Top Trump USA, an official licensee of Hasbro, chose Madison because “we look for a really strong sense of community and local pride, and I think Madison has all of those things,” sales executive Katie Bradshaw said.
Madison residents can take part in the game by submitting places they want on the map. All submissions will be due Jan. 10, 2025, and the game is set to be released in the summer.
“There are a lot of iconic places in the city that belong on a monopoly board,” said UW-Madison sophomore Aleksandr Rose. “I’d love to see the Capitol, Monona Terrace, Memorial Union Terrace, Camp Randall and James Madison Park. I want the jail to be a Memorial Library cage, but that might be asking for too much.”
Top USA puts businesses and landmarks through a strong vetting process focusing on credibility, longevity and community engagement. They split the 22 properties into categorical color sets in the game, tailoring the categories to the city. There are also several non-profit spots.
The game will be discounted in local Madison stores to encourage consumers to shop locally, according to Bradshaw. It can also be purchased on Amazon and their website.
As the meeting concluded, the crowd clapped, excited for the game.
