Wisconsin men’s soccer falls to Ohio State in a 3-2 battle at home

The Badgers lost their nine-game win streak against the Buckeyes on Saturday.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison men’s soccer team scored twice on Saturday, but that wasn’t enough to secure the win against the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes — who have scored 33 goals this season, the second most in the country.

Badgers’ midfielder Matthew Zachemski scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 27th minute. After an Ohio State handball in the box, the freshman buried the ball into the net to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead.

Ohio State answered in the 38th minute with a goal from [position] Michael Adedokun. The score remained 1-1 at the half and until the 61st minute, when Parker Grinstead gave the Buckeyes their first lead of the night.

This lead lasted less than three minutes when another penalty was awarded to the Badgers after Ohio State’s foul in the box. Sophomore defender Ryan Quintos took the penalty kick that hit off of the Buckeye keeper’s gloves and rolled into the left side of the net, leveling the game 2-2.

In the 80th minute, Ohio State’s Tanner Creech scored the game’s last goal. The Buckeyes held onto the 3-2 lead to secure their three points.

Wisconsin will stay at home to host Viterbo University on Wednesday as they look to end their six-game winless streak. The Badgers hosted the V-Hawks in September, but the Badgers’ 3-0 lead at halftime won’t count because of its mid-game weather-impending suspension.

The rematch will have a 6 p.m. kickoff from McClimon Soccer Complex.
