The University of Wisconsin-Madison women’s rowing team kept their early-season momentum alive with a stellar performance at the Head of the Rock Regatta this past Sunday. Racing on the Rock River in Rockford, Illinois, the Badgers faced off against top teams from across the Midwest, including the University of Chicago, Marquette and Big Ten rivals Purdue and Illinois.
Strong performances across the board
The Badgers wasted no time showing their strength, sweeping the top three spots in the Women’s Collegiate 2- event. Juniors Josie Reeve and Tristen Gallo crossed the finish line first with a time of 19:47.818, leading the pack. Close behind were junior Grace Fragakis and senior Mara Cassidy in second (20:26.864), while seniors Macy Mosner and graduate student Morgan Jensema rounded out the podium, finishing 20:27.355.
Wisconsin’s success didn’t stop there. The Women’s Collegiate Novice 8+ crew made a strong showing, securing two of the top three spots in their category. The Wisconsin A team took first with an impressive time of 17:16.167, while Wisconsin B followed closely in third at 19:43.635.

The Badgers have a competitive upcoming season
With their recent performances, the Badgers have set themselves up for a competitive season. They will face a new challenge at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston this weekend, where they will compete against some of the powerhouse crews of the Ivy League.
