Wisconsin women’s rowing finishes strong at Head of the Charles

Current and former Badgers faced off against some of the nation’s top teams this past weekend in Boston.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison women’s rowing team continued its fall season this past weekend at the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta, showcasing their talent against some of the nation’s top crews on the notoriously difficult three-mile Charles River course.

Mixed results for the Badgers

In the Women’s Championship 4+, the Badgers finished seventh with a time of 18:14.077, 13 seconds off of medal pace. Columbia University took the top spot, completing the course in 17:50.546, followed closely by Penn AC A (17:56.065) and Virgina A (18:01.835).

Adding to the excitement, Wisconsin alumni participated in the Women’s Alumnae 8+, finishing in eighth place. The star-studded crew featured notable former Badgers, including Olympians Vicky Opitz, Wisconsin’s current head coach, and Yasmin Farooq, currently coaching at Washington.

Looking ahead

With another race weekend in the books, the Badgers are set to host a scrimmage against the University of Minnesota on Nov. 2 in Madison.
