The Wisconsin women’s basketball team suffered a 79-57 loss during the first road game of the season against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Wednesday night.
The game looked positive for the Badgers through the first half, but it was another back-and-forth game for them. While Wisconsin was only down 36-30 at halftime, it was the second half of this ball game where things started to fall apart for the team.
South Dakota State was unstoppable in terms of hitting shots, and they stopped the Badgers in their offensive play. But Wisconsin junior forward Serah Williams scored a series of layups and jumpers that helped slow down the Jackrabbits’ run.
Despite the Badgers’ loss, the team did perform well in some areas. They created turnovers on the Jackrabbits and scored off of them. Their turnover game was able to contribute 12 points to their final total. The Jackrabbits only scored four points off of turnovers.
The Badgers also led in steals, creating eight versus the five of their opponent.
Williams led the Badgers in scoring with 19 points, while junior guard Ronnie Potter (11 pts) and graduate student guard Natalie Leuzinger (9 pts) also contributed to the Badgers’ 57 points.
The Badgers are back in the Kohl Center on Sunday to host UW-Milwaukee for an in-state rivalry matchup.
