The Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball team took a huge 95-68 win over the Wright State Raiders in their first regular season game Tuesday, showing dominance and belonging on the court.
This win shattered a couple program records. The 95 points put up by the Badgers marked the most points scored in a season opener, surpassing the record set in the 2006 season opener when the Badgers beat Air Force 91-56.
The Badgers also had only seven total turnovers in the game. This was the least amount of turnovers the Badgers have had in a game in two years.
Junior forward Serah Williams led the way for the Badgers, scoring 29 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, earning the 23rd double-double of her career. Junior guard Ronnie Porter (19 points) and transfer guard Tess Myers (12 points) also showed dominance for the Badgers.
Wisconsin controlled most of the game. The Badgers led for almost the entirety of the game, while the Raiders only led for less than two minutes in the first quarter. Wisconsin outscored Wright State in fast breaks (21-10) and shot 45.6 percent from the field.
“I think we had a bit of everything. Everyone did something and we just turned up the heat,” Williams said in a post game conference.
Head coach Marisa Moseley noted “one thing we talked about last year was we needed the ability to put up more points.”
“I think this was a really strong start for us,” Moseley continued.
This win is just a preview of what is to come this season. The Badgers’ next game is at home against Georgetown on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
