MPD investigating State Street stabbing, no arrests made

The University of Wisconsin Police Department, Capitol Police and Madison Police Department responded to a stabbing on State Street Saturday afternoon prompting off campus alerts.

The University of Wisconsin Police Department alerted community members to an alleged stabbing on the 500 block of State Street around 2 p.m. Saturday. 

According to radio traffic, 911 dispatchers received multiple calls alerting them to a stabbing outside of Luchador Tequila & Taco Bar on State Street Saturday at around 2 p.m. Multiple people reported witnessing the suspect and the victim engaged in a physical altercation when the suspect pulled a sharp object, according to a police report released on Sunday.

The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the police report. 

The suspect fled the scene toward the Capitol, leaving the victim with multiple lacerations. Officers later reported applying a tourniquet. 

Police recovered a box cutter on the 200 block of Langdon Street, according to the police report. 

UWPD sent multiple notifications through the BadgerSAFE app Saturday alerting community members to an active incident on the 500 block of State Street at around 2:10 p.m.

At 2:41 p.m., UWPD sent an all clear alert. Those with information are asked to contact MPD.  

No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning, and the incident remains under investigation.
