Preview: Badgers men's golf aims for redemption in upcoming tournament

After the Badgers came in last in the Puerto Rico Classic, they look forward in hopes of scoring better in the Seminole Intercollegiate.

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s golf team has already kicked off their season in Puerto Rico, February 10th-12th, but they came in last place, shooting a collective 17 over in three rounds. But the Badgers still have opportunities to shine.

Next on the tee box for the Badgers is the Seminole Intercollegiate Tournament at Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville, Georgia. The Badgers will face some of the top-ranked NCAA Division I golf programs such as No. 21 Florida State and No. 69 Arkansas.

Glen Arven is one of the oldest courses in Georgia and is rich in history. Previously featured on the PGA tour, the par 72, 6,903-yard course is known for its toughness, as the course is kept well manicured and no hole will be a gimme. The Badgers must keep their focus as they encounter fast greens and lush rough on each hole.

Although the Badgers faced a tough loss, they showed signs of what they can do and carry on throughout the season. Junior Jacob Beckman finished in second place at the Puerto Rico Classic and shot five over through the tournament, a career low.

Freshman William Harned made his collegiate debut at the Puerto Rico Classic and had the second-best score amongst the Badgers. With key players stepping up, the Badgers have demonstrated strong performances in previous tournaments, giving hope that they can rally as a team in the upcoming event.

The Badgers only have a handful of tournaments left, including this one, before the Big Ten Championship. The team knows that they have little time left to make an impact. The Badgers will get to experience a change in scenery, rewarding them with some warmer weather to play in.
