Following an up-and-down start to his collegiate career, Sam Anderson changed his tune and is now poised for a promising career in professional golf.

Wisconsin’s men golf team shows some strength after placing 6th in Seminole Intercollegiate

The Badgers showed improvement as they continue through the spring season.

The Wisconsin Badgers men’s golf team placed sixth in the Seminole Intercollegiate tournament at the Glen Arven Country Club in Thomasville, Georgia on March 10 and 11.

The Badgers recently came off a tough loss at the Puerto Rico Classic, but made strides this week showing they are capable of success. Wisconsin tied for sixth place with Stetson as they both carded a collective 14 over, falling 17 strokes behind fifth-place Florida Gulf Coast.

Florida State took the No. 1 spot, beating Troy by 12 strokes, showing its dominance in this field. Florida State shot a collective 23 under. Florida State’s Luke Clanton placed first overall at the tournament, and this came as no shock as he just picked up his PGA tour card a few weeks ago.

Spencer Turtz came out on top for the Badgers. Turtz, who placed 23rd overall, shot an impressive three over. Turtz improved as the tournament went on, shooting a two-under, 68, in round three, his lowest in the tournament.

Wisconsin’s Graham Moody (T30) had a good tournament and finished on a high note shooting a one-under, 69, in round three and finished four over total.

In the Puerto Rico Classic, freshman William Harned showed what he is capable of, placing T-52, the second lowest of the Badgers. This week, Harned shot over par throughout the three rounds, carding an eight over. Evan Myers played as an individual for Wisconsin and placed T-42, shooting a six over for the tournament.

The Badgers showed improvement from the last tournament as they placed in the middle of the field this time, as opposed to the very last at the Puerto Rico Classic.

The Badgers are ranked No. 110 in NCAA Division I golf, and although they did not score as high as hoped, they beat opponents ranked higher than them, such as No. 82 Lipscomb, No. 64 Arkansas and No. 66 Furman.

Although the Badgers did not win on the scorecard, the domination of these programs demonstrates the talent and potential the Badgers possess. If they keep up this pace against other highly ranked programs, they can make a run in upcoming events.

On deck, the Badgers face off yet again in Georgia at the Schenkel Invitational on March 21 at Forest Heights Country Club.
