Badgers drop all 3 games to the Huskies

In a three-game series, Wisconsin softball only scored two runs in each game against Washington’s 15-run weekend.

Wisconsin softball (22-15) traveled to Seattle, Washington to play the Huskies in a three-game series over the weekend but left with no wins.

Fight in extra innings

The Badgers played 10 innings on Friday, going down 2-3 to the Huskies. The game started slow with no runs until the fourth, but Wisconsin landed on the scoreboard first thanks to senior outfielder Brooke Kuffel’s sacrifice fly.

Washington scored in the fifth inning to tie up the game, and both teams scored in the eighth to keep the game going. Gabi Salo threw 180 pitches, pitching all innings until Washington closed out the game at the bottom of the tenth.

Alivia Bark led the team in at bats with five, but only Molly Schlosser and Makenzie Foster had runs for the Badgers.

Losing steam

Wisconsin couldn’t come back for the second game, losing 6-2 on Saturday. The Badgers were first on the board with a run in the top of the first, but Washington came back with force with two runs in the first and two more in the fifth.

Schlosser ran home from Kendra Lewis’ single, but the lead didn’t last long. Molly Jacobson started at the mound for the Badgers, but after giving up those first two runs, Shelby Jacobson relieved her. Jordan Felci and Mattie Believau went in to pitch as well in the fifth and sixth.

Emma King had the lone run in the top of the seventh off Hilary Blomberg’s double. Washington didn’t play the bottom of the seventh due to its solidified win when Hannah Conger struck out.

Out with a whimper

With a similar performance to Saturday, Wisconsin dropped the third game of the series 6-2 on Sunday. The Badgers started with a one-run lead with Blomberg’s first homer of the game in the first inning.

Blomberg’s second home run came right away in the fourth inning to give the Badgers a two-run lead that didn’t last. Washington came back swinging with a run in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.
