St. Pat's in Five Points

The skies may have been a bit gray Saturday, but Five Points was nothing but green, as thousands of people turned out – and up – for St. Patrick’s Day. Partygoers decked out in green hats, beads and boots packed the streets and queued up to get into the bars to celebrate the Irish for the 32nd annual St. Pat’s in Five Points. Lines stretched out of the doors, onto the sidewalks and into the streets, which had been blocked off for the festivities.

The Guinness World Record for most bow ties tied at once was broken by USC students Sunday at Tie Us Together event at the Columbia Metropolitan Covention Center. USC Dance Marathon hosted the event in support of Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, Columbia’s local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. The original idea came from Britton’s co-owner Lucky Levinson, who then brought the idea to Dance Marathon. Britton’s arranged for a Guinness World Records observer to attend, and as of 4 p.m. Sunday, the new record is 820 bowties tied at one time. Photos by Brian Almond/ The Daily Gamecock
