“We are saddened by the loss of one of our community members, and we extend our sympathies to their loved ones,” Director of Public Health Madison & Dane County Janel Heinrich said. “COVID-19 can cause serious health complications and death, especially among older adults and people with chronic health conditions, that’s why it’s important that we all work together to prevent the spread of illness.”
As of Tuesday, there are 72 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Dane County and 457 cases in Wisconsin. 8,237 people have tested negative for the virus in the state.
The death comes the same day as Gov. Tony Evers’ “Safer-at-Home” order implementation, instructing Wisconsinites to remain in their homes starting this week to battle the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We strongly encourage community members to stay home unless activities are essential. In doing so, you’re not only helping protect yourself, but also our family, friends, neighbors and fellow community members,” Heinrich said.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along with Public Health Madison and Dane County recommend residents stay home as much as possible — to not leave your home unless absolutely necessary — and to continue everyday prevention measures.
