It’s been six years since we said goodbye to Jesse Pinkman, the guilt-ridden, meth-dealing anti-hero of the hit series “Breaking Bad.” Last we saw of Jesse, he and his partner-in-crime Walter White seemed to make amends before taking down the show’s final villains. Pinkman was last seen smiling and laughing as he drove away, leaving his life of crime behind him as he headed towards a new life.

Leave it to the biggest film-lover in the world and one of the greatest filmmakers of all time to craft a film that not only eloquently reflects on the changing world surrounding pop culture and the entertainment industry, but to create one of the most original, charismatic films of all time.

Few films are as widely recognized and celebrated as the original “Lion King,” which was known for its wonderful combination of stunning animation and creative, heartfelt story that audiences of all ages could marvel at. I’ll always remember being a young child and watching the 1994 Disney classic on VHS, choking up when Mufasa was fatally pushed off a cliff and into a stampede of wildebeests as his son Simba watched in terror.

Returning over two years since the premiere of its first season, HBO’s “Big Little Lies” continued on its own without any source material for season two and delivered a set of episodes that not only felt necessary for the sake of the characters but generated a truly intriguing, worthwhile plot.

But after the painfully long wait, Netflix’s hit sci-fi series “Stranger Things” has returned in its most exciting and emotional season yet. To put things simply: the new season of “Stranger Things” is almost absolutely perfect.

Godzilla is an international cultural phenomenon that has inspired 35 total films. The gigantic ocean lizard is one of the most iconic creations in global entertainment history. Originally created by Japanese filmmakers in 1954, Hollywood has generated three total Godzilla films, the latest being “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” It was a visually stunning display of CGI perfection, yet also a disastrous compilation of storytelling.

There was never a bigger or greater TV show in history. Originally airing in 2011, HBO’s “Game of Thrones” spanned eight seasons and helped transform the fantasy genre through its human-centered drama, complex characters and a captivating plot. With the series ending Sunday night, most fans, including myself, were extremely disappointed with how it ended.

Already grossing nearly $2.5 billion worldwide at the box office, “Avengers: Endgame” is perhaps the biggest film event of the year. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe waited a year for the studio to deliver an epic conclusion that united all of the superheroes to defeat the mad titan Thanos, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo did not disappoint.

After last week’s somewhat rushed and disappointing episode, HBO aired one of the best episodes of “Game of Thrones” by a long shot this Sunday. Two weeks ago director Miguel Sapochnik gave us “The Long Night,” the giant battle at Winterfell against the Army of the Dead, which brought the remaining characters together to fight for their lives in a spectacular array of CGI and fantasy spectacles. Now he directed “The Bells,” an episode that not only shocked audiences and delivered stunning action but was rooted in powerful, emotional suspense that honored its complex characters.

After a gigantic episode involving the war at Winterfell between the surviving heroes and the Army of the Dead, episode four of the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones” entitled “The Last of the Starks” offered both recovery from last week and a build up to the show’s spectacular finish. In one of the best-written episodes in the series, the show laid the framework for yet another battle and the show’s climax.

Virtually every remaining character in the series is gathered together at Winterfell to fight the Dead. With so many lovable characters in the same presence, episode two of season eight of “Game of Thrones” titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” did a remarkable job of reminding us why the show truly works so well — the emotional depth and the rich characters.
