Madison Metropolitan School District announced Marlon Anderson’s reinstatement Monday after the black security guard was fired for using the N-word while correcting a student that directed the slur at him. Anderson was fired Oct. 16 under a “zero tolerance” policy of racial slurs being used by staff.
In a marathon meeting stretching into the early hours of Tuesday morning, the Madison Finance Committee voted in favor of a $40 vehicle registration fee and finalized Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway’s 2020 operating budget, omitting funding that would have added officers to the Madison police force.
The committee submitted its final recommendations after four years of studying the dynamic between the police department and the city.
