Investigators look for missing Florida teen in Madison

Emily W. Paul, now 17, vanished from Florida on April 13, 2013. Bay County investigators believe someone with whom she was acquainted picked her up in Southport on her own accord. The Bay County Sheriff’s Office said they are renewing their plea for help to reunite Paul with her family and believe that she could be in Madison, according to a Madison Police Department incident report. The report said she was last known to be 4 feet 10 inches and about 100 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.


Dane County Executive Joe Parisi suspended all nonessential county official travel to North Carolina and Mississippi Monday in response to the states' LGBT discriminatory laws.

Parisi urges Walker not to sign any discriminatory bills, bans nonessential travel to Mississippi, North Carolina

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi sent a letter to Gov. Scott Walker Monday in which he urged Walker not to sign any laws that allow for discrimination based on sexual orientation. Parisi also suspended all nonessential travel to states with these laws. Parisi stressed the business impacts other states have seen due to new laws that allow discrimination against the LGBT community on religious grounds. In the letter, he noted PayPal decided not to build its global operations center in North Carolina after the state passed the law.

Madison police release employee recognitions, disciplines

The Madison Police Department reported 167 employee recognitions for extraordinary service and two internal disciplines during the first quarter of 2016, according to a press release. The 167 positive recognitions included acknowledgement from inside the department and citizen thank-yous in the form of emails, letters and voice mails.

Young wins Dane County Board of Supervisors District 5 race

Hayley Young has been elected to represent most of the UW-Madison campus as the District 5 Dane County Board of Supervisors, beating UW-Madison sophomore and former University Affairs Chair Angelito Tenorio. Young, a recent UW-Madison grad and half-time legislative aid in Representative Melissa Sargent (D, Madison) office, won the election with over 60 percent of the vote.
